There's a Suzuki FX which has been in the family for the past 30 years. The car belonged to a beloved uncle who recently met with the Almightly. Since the car holds a huge sentimental value, I got hold of it with the intention of restoring it to its original 1980's condition.
The Ups:
- Mechanically the car is in OK condition. The engine and drive-train is apparently OK, the brakes might need servicing and some bushes here and there would do the job.
The Downs:
Over the years the car has gone through multiple paint-jobs. It went from being navy blue to beige and then to grey and had to endure the malpractices applied by local denting shops.
The interior is not in the best of conditions as 30 years have had a toll on everything. The gauges still work, every single one of them, but the dash has started to crumple. The seats, the carpets, headliners and door-cards would be easy to replace or where required reupholster, however finding a decent dashboard might be tricky.
The Sourcing List:
1. 4 x doors
2. Hood (maybe)
3. Roof (yes)
4. Bumpers
5. Front grill (maybe)
6. Headlights (maybe)
7. Tail-lights
8. Exhaust system (maybe)
9. Floor and other body panels.
10. Dashboard
11: Headliner
12. Door-cards
13. Seats (Refurbish existing frames)
14. Carpets
I've only attempted one restoration before which was abandoned midway due to lack of time and interest. However this car holds a great sentimental value which is why it would be seen through the end. I will be needing help from the community on sourcing these parts, as some might be extremely difficult to get.
I am planning to document the entire story here, it would be slow and steady. Will post pictures soon.
