Before directly explaining as how i am going to modify my short wheel base jimny sierra (pic blue on top), i would like to explain a little as why i have decided to go for these specifications and why a suzuki?
In my very humble opinion, basically no 4x4 is perfect "FROM ALL ASPECTS". You just need to prioritize your needs and than plan a 4x4 accordingly. If we keep the comfort element aside, honestly i have not seen a better 4x4 than even a simple stock suzuki.
The reasons are
a. Low maintenance
b. Fuel efficient
c. Different engine options
d. Different differential options (max no of diffs available as compared to any other brand.
e. The slim size makes it easy to drive it even on very difficult tracks.
f. Most of the models, even the mid 90s, have mechanical 4x4 gears avoiding hassles of any electronics involved.
g. Plenty of parts/ stuff available in market as the veh was used in govt departments and in domestic use also.
So the only issue left is, its discomfort and the hard drive. For which in most of my previous experiences with the modified suzukis, i have seen the lwb behaving better. Mainly because of the increase in weight and the increased wheel base. Even the soft top lwb behaves quite well than the short wheel versions. (pics of my suzuki 4x4s which i have kept over the years are attached) 12 in total so far.
Now coming directly to what i am going to do here. I am going to extend a short wheel base hard top jimny sierra to a long wheel base one, both from center and from the rear also, keeping it a hard top veh. The extension will NOT BE as per the stock LWB version but as per my own requirements and as per my own way. Like it will be from the center of the door so that the entry point be expanded for the rear passengers easy entry. Exactly as how i did a couple of yrs back with a jimny. And the rear extension will be in a way that the departure angle be better than the stock lwb and it should be able to accommodate passengers at third row also.
I would like everyone to pls point out any flaws or any suggestions you want to put across. Also i shall try to keep sharing details of the work.
