National Highways and Motorways Police (NH&MP) has accelerated its digitalization process in order to facilitate and provide safety to the commuters.

The national highways network is being continuously updated to ensure smooth flow of traffic and allow the citizens to stay aware of the current road situation. A system for crisis cell and nerve centre is established at Central Police Office, Islamabad. All the communication, coordination and supervision of road networks and motorway police will be carried out through this channel. The centre also provides a real-time road situation through its system which allows the commuters to prepare themselves beforehand. It also offers timely notifications about any sorts of road blockages, lousy weather conditions, visibility issues, closed roads or diversions due to maintenance work. The citizens can access the portal by visiting nhmp.gov.pk

Motorway Police are also efficiently using social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, etc. to communicate and send information to the commuters. A smartphone application (NHA-IS) is operational which provides timely assistance to those travelling on the highways in case of an accident, medical emergency, vehicle repair work or related issues. It helps in real time navigation and allows the commuter to connect with the relevant sector office for any query.

Moreover, several virtual bulletin boards have been installed that display speed limits in accordance with the traffic conditions ahead. Besides that, the information related to any incidents on the road, alternative routes, road congestion, safety messages and estimated delay in the journey is shared through the system. NH&MP has developed software named Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) which will help in maintaining the digital profiles of all the employees.

Helpline 130 linked to the motorway police is a call centre service available for the road users at any time of the day or night. It can receive phone calls through any landline, cell phone or emergency booths installed by the motorway police. Furthermore, the operations of Drivers Licensing Authority (DLA) based in the federal capital have been upgraded. The system allows one window operation under efficient processing of applications which also integrates biometric verification and facial imaging. It is worthy to mention here that NH&MP had recently installed the first ever HTV Driving Simulator at the training college, Sheikhupura. It is indeed a significant step towards modernization and offering real-time training experience in making professionals.

NH&MP is committed to providing an unparalleled travelling experience to the citizens with its state of the art technology and services. Share your valuable thoughts in the comments section. Stay connected with PakWheels for more updates.
