Chiron Super Sports: 30 units to be made in first phase

VW Group: The highly exclusive Bugatti Chiron prototype which hit an astonishing 304mph at Ehra-Lessien has been molded into a production car, and 30 lucky customers will have it in their garage soon.

Right after the folks at VW group shattered the world’s top speed record for a production vehicle. Half of the world went crazy and started admiring this mind-bending achievement by Buggati. Whereas the rest of the world started to point fingers at Bugatti saying that the Chiron used was not a production vehicle; hence, it doesn’t qualify to be noted or appreciated at all. But just a few days after their historic 300mph run, Bugatti has shutdown its hatters by actually deciding to make 30 units of Chiron Super Sports. That is five more units than what Guinness requires from a company aiming for a speed record. Well Done Bugatti!

These 30 units will closely be related to the car that topped 300mph at VW’s 12-mile straight-line speed test track, featuring the exact same extended bodywork. At the back, packing the same cooling looking exhaust-tailpipes pinched from the Centodieci, Bugatti says that chosen as this placement doesn’t greatly affect drag and aero which is exactly what’s needed at speed upwards of 250mph.

Codenamed the “Thor” this Bugatti’s W16 engine present in all 30 SS300+ will also remain the same. Featuring the exact same tweakings to help it output 1578bhp, which is a piece of fine news for folks who think the standard Chioron’s 1478bhp output is a bit low.

What’s Changed?

Now if you thought that Bugatti just got ahead and made exact replicas of the original 300mph Chiron, then you are wrong. In order to cope with problems, their rich customers will face, they had to raise the ride height of the production versions by a few millimeters. Since no rich guy wants their crazy expensive ride hitting potholes every time they hit the roads. Also, they installed an actual comfy passenger seat if scaring your fellow passengers is the kind of thing you do for fun. The driver’s seat isn’t an expectation either. Unlike the safety-grade race seat, Andy Wallace harnessed himself into this one is a leathery mess where you can sit and relax. The laptops and GPS data-logging equipment seen in the original SS300+ has also been removed so that you can see much of the interior and road ahead instead of feeling like a mad scientist on its way to a time travel loop.

The most important question yet to be answered is how fast are these 30 units while Bugatti might reveal the numbers in a future date when these super exclusive units start rolling out. However, for now, we assume that these units can do north of 270mph but electronically limited since most of these will sit in a garage counting stars anyways. Still, if someone decided to be brave enough and fancy having a crack at the three double-O, this might require them fitting a roll cage, along with precisely dropping the ride height back down to its minimum. Along with the fitting of those crazy expensive and rare Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres used for the 304mph run of the original SS300+. And if you have decided to go that far. Bugatti will also arrange a slot at Ehra-Lessien for interested owners to feel the true power of a Bugatti.

Lastly, following the convention of the Veyron Super Sport, all Chiron will come in black with center painted deep orange stripes. But that is not an obligation if you have some extra $ to spare which I assume all Chiron owners have. That way you can have it finished in whatever color combination you desire.

Is the company on its 110th anniversary and in order to join this once mythical and super-exclusive 300mph club? You have to set yourself back around £4.2million. It’s an exclusive club, too with only 30 slots available.
