The third generation Suzuki Swift was the first major overhaul the Swift model received since its inception over a decade ago. With the third generation, we got a brand new design language that was thoroughly modern both inside and out with a host of new features that now allows the Swift to stand out from the competition once again. But the version that we petrolheads are most excited for is always the Sports model that is to follow a few months after Suzuki launches a new generation of the Swift. And a few days ago at the Frankfurt motor show, we got our first look at the third generation Suzuki Swift Sport.

On the new Swift Sport, we still get the same brand new design language that manages to be both aggressive and slightly restrained at the same time but with a series of additional styling cues to help it stand out from the standard Swift. At the front, we still get the same sharply tapered headlights with daytime running lights, a larger more aggressive trapezium front grille, and a new front bumper with a front lip spoiler. Around the rear end, we get a larger roof spoiler, dual exhaust tips and wider rear bumper with a rear diffuser. Along the sides, we also get larger side skirts.

Under the hood, we have a brand new 1.4-liter BoosterJet turbocharged engine that makes 138bhp and 169 lb-ft of torque. While that may not be anything to write home about when it comes to hot hatches that these days have closer to beyond 200bhp the Suzuki Swift is one of lightest hot hatches you can buy with a curb weight of around 975kg, which makes it approximately 250kg lighter than something like a Ford Fiesta ST. Suzuki hasn’t released performance figures as of yet, but you can expect a 0-60mph under 7 seconds and a top speed of around 130mph.

A range of new safety equipment is also available on the Swift Sport including advanced forward detection, dual sensor brake support, lane departure warning, six airbags, emergency stop signal among other features.
