10,000km completed in my possession. 🥂
In other news, found out that these exist. Absolutely must get my hands on these.
One jugaadu harkat I'm going to try to do next for fun is to get oil pressure within the spec that a lot of these F6A engine manuals say, which is:
2.7–3.7 kg/cm2
38.4–52.6 psi
at 4,000 RPM
(at operating temperature)
(because my gauge reads in kPa, 265 kPa – 363 kPa)
Right now, my oil pressure at 4000rpm in 5th (although you're supposed to check it with no load) is around 220 kPa, 31.9 psi, measured at the oil filter sandwich adapter.
The lubrication path for this engine, excluding the turbocharger and oil cooler present in my application, looks like this:
The lowest I've seen it at idle RPM after a bout of hard driving is 58 kPa, 8.4 psi.
The oil I'm using Havoline 10W-30 API SN, which has a hot visc. of 10.4 cSt. The filter I'm using is the 90mm high ViC C-113.
So far, I've used the following oil filters:
ViC C-110 - 75mm height, for Toyota
ViC C-932 - 65mm height, OEM spec
JS Asakashi C932J - 65mm height, OEM spec
ViC C-113 - 90mm height, for Toyota
All of these are 3/4"x16 UNF thread, 1.0 bar bypass valve pressure, and full flow filters with 54x62x4.5mm round O-rings.
I'm going to try and use a C934 filter, which is for the newer Suzuki R06A 660cc engines, and has a 50mm height. The decrease in filtration area should be fine considering the extremely short OCI I have; Suzuki states a 10,000km interval for the stock C932 filter.
Along with the shorter filter, will try one of these:
Havoline ProDS 5W-30 - 10.7 cSt
66 / 33 Havoline ProDS 5W-30/5W-40 - 11.65 cSt
33 / 66 Havoline ProDS 5W-30/5W-40 - 12.7 cSt
Havoline ProDS 5W-40 - 13.8 cSt
I cannot afford to have the turbo blow or the engine wear out in this economy. Considering how high this engine revs in normal use, and how much I need to whip it to even go 60km/h, and the fact that the low oil pressure light (0.3 bar, 4.35 psi) comes on regularly when coming to a stop because of the worn-out VSV, maintaining oil film stability is critical.
Modern Gp. III synthetics, especially ones with A3/B4 HTHS figures, will help immensely, available in a large variety, and are quite cheap. I might even skip the mixture stuff and go straight for Amsoil's Premium Protection 10W-40 or Liqui-Moly Synthoil High Tech 5W-40 and hopefully forget about oil changes for a while.
Here's a picture of a replacement valve cover with my little friend.
I really appreciate the miniscule magic of these tiny forced induction combustion engines. This little guy, an 80-kilogram chunk of cast iron 35 years old, is reliably getting me to and from school, work, and home - it's only fair I take care of it.
