Yeah that's probably the easiest route, saves me a lot of money, and eliminates a lot of the turbocharger hassle. A Suzuki M13, M16, M18, G13, G16, even K10A swap will be more than reasonable considering the gearing. Even something like the 1KR-FE is probably plentiful.
Someone suggested a 4AGE swap, but that's an ancient engine and won't be cheap to maintain, let alone change gearing and final drive ratio for.
A complete F6AT from the scrapyard is also not expensive at all, if it comes to that, and I'll have to get it shipped from Balochistan most likely, but it is possible. Can then have it opened up and inspected for any necessary overhaul work.
I would do a complete electric motor swap while retaining the manual gearbox as a personal project if it were possible to procure good quality parts in Pakistan, but it is not.
Ultimately this is how it is, even if Xulfiqar is talking about the KF-VE, R06A ilk and the other all-aluminium low-friction 0W-20-running kei car engines rather than the F6AT in particular.
IIRC the 2v SOHC F6AT was designed specifically for the JA11 before it was canted for the Carry/Every platform, naturally aspirated, given a DOHC head, adapted for the Alto Works, Cappuccino, Cara, etc. From all the material I've browsed, these tiny engines are still in service three decades later, the only thing that tends to die on them quickly is the turbocharger, and that tracks with it being a small high-load high-RPM boosted engine.
I can cruise at 80km/h without boost, and even 100km/h at around 1-2 psi boost, but that's all. This has been my exact experience with this engine - almost no torque without boost. The earliest you can get the turbo to spool is 1800rpm, but the engine really sounds like it doesn't like it, even if it will pull from 1800rpm in 3rd or 4th gear. I think pulling under boost at low revs is what ultimately caused my head gasket to blow.
Anyway, let's see if and when this engine dies. I really hope it doesn't, though, it gives the car a lot of character. So far we're still on the road, two years after I purchased it. I generally drive it between 3k-5k RPM, and it gets thrashed through all 5 gears just getting to 80km/h. Very entertaining.
