City Traffic Police has started grand operation against underage drivers in a bid to curb fatal road accidents caused by them and also to ensure their safety as well. According to the officials, the traffic police is clamping down hard on underage drivers and till now has seized 700 vehicles and around 2900 young drivers have been awarded tickets.

The police asserted that at first if the police have confiscated any vehicle it would be released on a condition that the parents will give a guarantee and submit surety bonds that the child will no more drive vehicle on public roads. However, if the police apprehend the child for the second time, then stern actions will be taken against the parent of the child.

According to the rule, the underage children will not be able to drive motorbike, car and even rickshaw. Rai Ijaz Ahmad, Chief Traffic Officer Lahore said: Parents must be stern with the children in this regard as the matter is dangerous and can cause severe damage to property as well as the lives of people, parents must take a more concrete approach to curb this menace.

Moreover, he further asserted that children especially teenagers should not be allowed to drive the vehicles until they to the age where they get a license. The city traffic police are also conducting lectures in schools and colleges to educate young guns about the importance of road safety laws.

This special drive by the city traffic police will continue until 27 of November. Aside from taking action against underage drivers, the police are also targeting smoky vehicles, which are polluting the environment causing harm to the general public.

Furthermore, vehicles which have illegal, improver and fancy number plates are also being targeted by the police. In my opinion, the police are doing such a great job and should drive these campaigns and awareness lectures until the very end.
