The new 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is not only the most powerful production Corvette in the car manufacturer’s history, but it also now holds the shortest production car lap time record at the Virginia International Raceway’s Grand Course West. To describe what is the importance of setting a record lap time on this particular race track, Chevrolet’s executive vice president of global product development Mark Reuss claimed the track to be “arguably America’s most challenging road course”. 2019 Corvette ZR1 blazed through the lap with a record time of 2:37.25.

The Corvette that broke the record was 100% stock coupe except that it was fitted with racing seats and harnesses as a safety measure. The Corvette ZR1 running this course featured the almost-$3,000 ZTK Performance Package that adds the big rear wing, Michelin Pilot Sports Cup 2 tires, custom suspension tuning, and a front splitter to the model.

Additionally, the Corvette featured Chevrolet’s eight-speed automatic transmission especially for this race track attempt instead of the much more common seven-speed manual transmission setup. If a racing fanatic would want to buy a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 2019 in the exact same configuration as the one that set this record, they would have to pay about $123,000 without the cost of custom seats and safety harnesses. With that amount, you can get the exact identical configuration of the 2019 Corvette ZR1, minus the extremely talented driver who drove the record-setting car.
